Year One

Saint Teresa and  Saint George

Saint Teresa's Assembly 13th February 2020

People of Prayer

This topic is about the prayer life of the Church. We have been studying the Feast of the Epiphany as well as two prayers found in Matthew's Gospel: the Beatitudes and the Lord's Prayer. In class the children have been considering the people they think are Beatitudes People, including St Teresa of Calcutta.

Saint George's Assembly 23rd January 2020

New Year - New Beginnings

and

The Year of the Word

During this assembly the children in Saint George introduced the year.

They told us about many events taking place (including the Olympics) as well as the Year of  the Word.

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales have declared 2020 to be a year of special focus on the Bible.

This marks the tenth anniversary of Pope Benedict XVI's Apostolic Exhortation, Verbum Domini, (The Word of the Lord) and the 1600 years since the death of Saint Jerome - who translated the Bible into Latin. The year started on the Feast of Saint Jerome, 30 September 2019, and runs until 31 December 2020.

During this year we are called to explore and celebrate the Word of God through the Scriptures, share the Word with others and respond to the "God who speaks" in the way that we live.

Year 1 Learning Together Workshop in Phonics

Our parents cam along to see how we are taught to read and write using Phonics so that they could help us at home. We practised some sounds and played red word bingo!

Year 1 Maths Challenge

We all practised our doubles and halves and showed off how much we know by competing in teams to take on different maths challenges. The two teams then had a 'head to head' challenge. We all had so much fun!

A Miracle in Town!

We rehearsed our concert all about the birth of Jesus at Christmas. We performed our concert for the Infants, Juniors and all our families. Everyone worked so hard to do their best and the audiences loved our show. We are very proud of ourselves!
